Games to share outside with friends.
Children in Haiti love to play, just like children everywhere. Many games are played together, outside, with friends and family.
Marèl is hopscotch: hop through the squares without touching the lines. Lago is hide-and-seek. Many children also jump rope, play ball, fly kites and play football.
In schoolyard song games, children stand in a circle, clap their hands and sing together. Jwèt kay is a board game with holes and small stones that families play.
Try it at home: draw a marèl with chalk and hop together!

Les jeux des enfants haïtiens
Des jeux à partager dehors avec les amis.
Les enfants d’Haïti aiment jouer, comme les enfants du monde entier. Beaucoup de jeux se jouent ensemble, dehors, avec les amis et la famille.
Marèl, c’est la marelle : on saute dans les cases sans toucher les lignes. Lago, c’est le cache-cache. Beaucoup d’enfants sautent aussi à la corde, jouent au ballon, font voler des cerfs-volants et jouent au football.
Dans les jeux chantés de la cour d’école, les enfants forment un cercle, tapent des mains et chantent ensemble. Jwèt kay est un jeu de plateau avec des trous et de petites pierres auquel jouent les familles.

Jwèt pou pataje deyò ak zanmi.
Timoun an Ayiti renmen jwe, tankou timoun toupatou. Anpil jwèt se ansanm yo jwe yo, deyò, ak zanmi ak fanmi.
Marèl se yon jwèt kote ou sote nan kare yo san ou pa touche liy yo. Lago se jwèt kache. Anpil timoun sote kòd tou, jwe balon, voye kap epi jwe foutbòl.
Nan jwèt chante lekòl, timoun fè yon wonn, yo bat bravo epi yo chante ansanm. Jwèt kay se yon jwèt tab ki gen twou ak ti wòch ke fanmi yo jwe.
