Simple ideas that need no screens. Try one together this week.
Count and sort
Count steps on the way to the park, or sort socks by color together. Count to ten in English, French and Kreyòl: youn, de, twa, kat, senk, sis, sèt, uit, nèf, dis.
Read aloud
Read together and ask, “What happens next?” Tell a family story or a proverb and talk about what it means. Try “Piti piti zwazo fè nich li”: little by little, the bird builds its nest.
Outdoor discovery
Take a nature walk and name three animals you spot. Collect leaves and sort them by size or shape.
Crafts
Draw shapes and turn them into a picture. Color the Haitian flag (blue on top, red on the bottom) and talk about Flag Day on May 18.
Move along
Play marèl (hopscotch), jump rope, dance to a favorite song, or play follow-the-leader.
Cook and talk
Let your child wash vegetables or stir (with an adult close by). Talk about family foods and traditions.
